Sylvania 72178 Motion Activated Battery Powered Safety Light CustomerReview
As has been written, these lights as shipped produce a fairly small spot. However, remove the diffuser and they produce a much broader lighted area. The light is very bright. Heed the warning about looking straight at it.
I bought them for some 5 ft wide, 2 1/2 ft deep closets. I experimented with the diffuser in place and the spot was too narrow. I removed the diffuser and installed the light centered on the width, 3″ in from the front and 6″ in front of the shelving above the rod and on one side. The light floods nearly the full width of the closet. Even with the room lights off it provides plenty of light in the closet to find clothes or things on the shelves. I like the fact that the motion detector does not activate unless you are very close to it. That avoids accidentally activating the light when it isn’t needed. I originally bought three lights. I’m now thinking of buying more for a couple other closets.
